The Tellurian story commenced in 2003 with the planting of our first block on the western side of Mt Camel at Toolleen.

The People

Winemaker Tobias Ansted has worked in the region for over a decade.  Tobias works on a minimal intervention basis to craft wines that are a true expression of their site.
Ian Hopkins passion for wines from the Heathcote region was the springboard for the establishment of the Tellurian venture.
General Manager Daniel Hopkins has marketed some of the world’s most recognisable brands, now working closely with many of Australia’s leading restaurants who have embraced Tellurian on their wine lists.

The Vineyard

Tellurian Wines vineyard is on the western slopes of Mt Camel Range, overlooking the township of Toolleen.

The original Tellurian vineyard was planted in 2003 with 5.6 ha of  shiraz vines, with a further 3.6 ha of Shiraz were planted in 2006.

The ancient 500 million year old Cambrian soils of the Toolleen area of the Heathcote region combined with viticultural practices that focus on optimising fruit quality from each vine provide the base building blocks for our wines.

We work closely with the Touhey family vineyard on the eastern side of Mt Camel who grow grapes that are blended with fruit from our estate vineyard for the Tellurian Heathcote Pastiche Shiraz.

Grapes for our Viognier are sourced from selected vineyards in close proximity to Toolleen and we work closely with these growers to ensure vineyard management and harvesting practices yield optimum quality fruit for each of the wines.
