Tellurian Heathcote Riesling 2015

THE VINEYARD

The fruit for the 2015 Heathcote Riesling was sourced from our own vineyard in Tranter Rd, Toolleen, on the Western side of the Mt Camel range. The vineyard is carefully managed to achieve optimal vine balance and to ensure exceptional fruit quality by using techniques such as shoot positioning, shoot thinning, fruit thinning, green harvesting and multiple picking passes.

THE VINTAGE

The 2015 season provided close to ideal growing conditions resulting in intense and full flavoured fruit retaining wonderful natural acidity. Characterised by constant warm weather, Vintage 2015 didn’t have any significant heatwaves, for the first time in many years. Though the entire growing season was relatively dry, January rains provided much needed soil moisture allowing for perfect ripening conditions.

The Riesling was hand harvested on 12th February at 12.7 baume.

THE WINEMAKING

The winemaking philosophy is one that aims to allow the fruit to have full expression with winemaking playing a supporting role.

The grapes were gently whole bunch pressed to a stainless steel tank for overnight settling. The juice was racked and inoculated with a select strain of yeast and fermented in stainless steel. The wine remained on yeast lees in tank for three months before being stabilised, filtered and bottled.

THE WINE

Pale straw in colour, the 2015 Tellurian Riesling has a perfumed nose of lemon and lime with jasmine nuances. The palate shows intense citrus and granny smith apple flavours with some phenolic grip held together by a tight line of acid leading to a long finish.
