Tellurian Wines

Marsanne 2024

Tellurian Marsanne is picked later in the season where Heathcote’s warm days and cool nights helps to capture the expressive flavour offered by this variety. Whilst some early picked examples of this variety can cellar very well, Tellurian Marsanne is made as early drinking style, to showcase the best of its flavour and texture.

TASTING NOTE

Pale gold in colour. Aromas of pear, apple and honeydew are complemented by lifted florals. Medium bodied palate with lovely texture and complexity from subtle oak and lees. Pear, citrus, melon combines with subtle ginger spice. Well balanced acidity providing freshness and length.

VINEYARD

Hand picked from our Tellurian vineyard, in Tranter Rd, Toolleen,  growing inCambrian soils formed over 500 million-years. Deep, rich, decomposed greenstone rock and limestone with soil depths up to 2m allow roots to reach deep, while relatively low fertility controls vigour and yield.

VINTAGE

After the cooler conditions of the 2017 season, 2018 saw the return of the warm dry conditions that have been more typical in recent years. Vintage started in early February and went through to mid-March. Despite being warm overall the lead up to harvest avoided excessive heat leading to wines with good ripeness and fruit expression.

WINEMAKING

Hand picked grapes were harvested early in the morning then de-stemmed pressed direct to tank. Juice was settled for 24 hours and racked while still cloudy before being inoculated with a select strain of yeast. The juice was then transferred to seasoned French oak barrels for fermentation. The wine was aged on lees without stirring for 6 months before being stabilised, filtered and bottled.
